Corneal Topography

cornealThe Medmont E300 Corneal Topographer of our Fort Lauderdale office is an advanced imaging instrument that produces a 3-D topographical map of a patient’s cornea, the outer structure of the eye. In a matter of seconds, this computerized map of over 15,000 points measured on the surface of the cornea, enables the doctor to see minute corneal irregularities. Since the cornea is normally responsible for 70% of the eye’s refractive power, its topography is of critical importance in determining the quality of vision. This is a painless test for the patient and does not require the eyes to be dilated.

This information is used to:

  • Diagnose corneal diseases such as kerataconus
  • Design custom contact lenses
  • Determine if someone is a candidate for LASIK
  • Assist in the assessments for corneal transplant Locate and diagnose astigmatism prior to cataract surgery
